A Quiet Woodland Adventure Near Bridford with Buddy 🐾

Updated: 3 days ago

What I absolutely love about dog walking in Devon is discovering those serene spots where dogs can truly be themselves.

This week, Buddy and I ventured to a tranquil woodland near Bridford. Nestled among the trees, it's a place where life's pace naturally slows. The air is crisp, the road noise fades, and we can truly explore.

As we wandered through the forest, we saw a young deer slowly walking among the trees. Moments like these are exactly why I adore walking dogs across Dartmoor and the Devon countryside.

Buddy is an exceptional dog. I only leash him if another dog is on a lead. He is super passionate about his ball so I got him a bright red Kong ball for our adventures, with a spare in the van, because a walk without a ball just wouldn't do for Buddy!

He remains unfazed by distractions; whether it's a bird darting by or a bunny hopping away, his focus is solely on me and the ball! When we reach rocky sections, I tuck his ball into my bumbag to prevent him from overexerting on loose stones and to give him a break. During this time, he often gives me a look as if to say, 'Why would you do that, Rebecca?' but then he continues to enjoy sniffing around. Watching dogs sniff is one of my all-time favorite activities; they gain so much from it.

One of Buddy's favourite parts of the walk was the long stretch of trees where I could throw his ball far.

The woodland canopy offered refreshing shade, making it an ideal spot for an adventure in warm weather. On such days, choosing the right locations is crucial to ensure dogs are safe, comfortable, and happy while enjoying ample exercise and enrichment.

By the time we returned to the van, Buddy was happy, enriched and very ready for a lay down! Days like this are precisely why I founded Tails of Dartmoor.

Because dog walking should be more than just exercise. It should be an adventure.
